Leveraging the Power of Innovation and Entrepreneurship to achieve Sustainable Socio-economic Transformation
Inspiring, equipping, and empowering Africa’s youth to develop sustainable businesses, and ultimately significantly reducing youth Unemployment on the continent.
Uganda has one of the youngest and fastest growing populations in the world. Uganda is also a breeding ground for entrepreneurs – particularly in universities and vocational colleges – they form a key, and often underrated part of the national business incubation funnel. Indeed, studies suggest that Uganda is the most entrepreneurial counties in the world. Yet, ironically, Uganda also has one of the highest rates of youth Unemployment in the world.
Formerly the National Association of Student Enterprises, NASE Africa is a social enterprise that focuses on facilitating entrepreneurship and enterprise skills among the youth in Uganda. Launched in December 2015, NASE’s work covers various sectors and supports and increases the capacity of youth to engage in innovative and entrepreneurial business development activities.
WHAT WE DO
NASE seeks to achieve rational mind-set shift among youths and university students from seeking employment to becoming entrepreneurial. Our inspirational programmes inspire youth to explore entrepreneurship as a valid alternative to job searching
Uganda’s young people tend to be under-educated and ill-equipped to manage commercial enterprises beyond the one-person start-up phase which leaves gaps in the enterprise ecosystem. NASE’s work plugs these gaps by providing robust and well-coordinated co-curricular skilling for youths to be able to start and run a commercially viable startups
Most young entrepreneurs are ambitious, but lack a firm grasp on the concept of what it really takes to run a business. With over 80 world-class and experienced experts from a broad range of sectors, our business mentors offer both group and 1-2-1 mentorship sessions thereby empowering our budding entrepreneurs to navigate the perils of early-stage entrepreneurship.
The entrepreneurship support ecosystem in Uganda is not short of hubs that support start-ups. But where do business ideas come from? Who inspires these youth to dream and conjure up these ideas? The reality is that a lot of work happens upstream before these start-ups even pitch their ideas to the various hubs’ programmes. We stand with startups at their earliest and perhaps most risky stages.…
In the entrepreneurship space, particularly on the African continent, a great idea and the determination to succeed are just not enough. Lack of capital for business development is one of the most common reasons why start-ups fail or never get an opportunity to scale – particularly in Africa where startups have few options. We lobby development partners to offer micro-grants financing to entrepreneurs so they can develop their Minimum Viable Products (MVP).
“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one that is most adaptable to change.” Charles Darwin – he might as well have been writing about today’s highly competitive and rapidly changing business environment. Using Design Thinking techniques, we facilitate new and in-house innovative solutions to challenges faced by SMEs and large corporates.
